It is comprised of presbyters or elders who are ordained to this work in accordance with the Constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
There are currently nine members of the Session of Edgewater Kirk.
Meetings of the Session
According to the by-laws that govern the congregation and in keeping with Presbyterian polity, the Moderator and the Clerk lead the Session.
The Moderator facilitates the meetings, ensuring a quorum is present, and calls for decision-making votes. This office is held by the pastor.
The current Moderator of Session is the Rev. Kristin Hutson, M.Div., J.D.
The Clerk maintains records, send and receive correspondence, and represent the congregation in public forums and functions, when it is appropriate. This office is held by a currently serving ruling elder and elected by their peers on the Session in a vote held annually.
The current Clerk of Session is Eld. Gerald Farinas.
Elder Commissioners
Pastors and elders from each community represent the congregation in the presbytery, much like parish priests do in a diocese, in the Catholic and Episcopalian traditions. These elders are called “elder commissioners.”
